OUR DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Where are your future NABAIJI products designed?
Come and discover the Water Sports Center,
a place of creation and innovation, as close as possible to our element: water.

At the Water Sports Center, the DECATHLON group's global design centre for water sports, based in Hendaye, our teams come up with, test and design the products of tomorrow every day.

Why Hendaye?

Our job is to understand our users and to meet their needs as closely as possible. To achieve this, what better than an open space at the water's edge to design and test your future products?

The Water Sports Center is home to several brands that work together on a daily basis. NABAIJI (swimming), OLAIAN (surfing), ITIWIT (paddle sports), SUBEA (diving), and more! Here, swimmers rub shoulders with divers and surfers. Hendaye emerged as the ideal spot where we could do our different sports in synergy. So we put down roots in the old fish market buildings in the fishing port of Hendaye.

The Water Sports Center in a few figures

Today, the global design centre covers almost 10,000 sqm and 290 people work there every day. Half of them are engineers, designers, garment designers, prototype engineers and product managers who work together to come up with and design the products of tomorrow. We've also got more than 10 different nationalities working at the global Water Sports Center!

On average each year, more than 10 patents are registered and over 10,000 prototypes are created at the Water Sports Center.

It is here that products from all over the world begin their great adventure to one day arrive in your hands.

A place of creation and innovation.

THE FAB LAB'

This is where we bring our ideas to life. Here, creativity is king. From traditional tools to 3D printers, we explore, we create and we test to fashion functional prototypes that we can then put to the test.

THE APF

The APF is the industrial prototyping workshop, where we create all of our textile prototypes (swimwear, wetsuits, etc.). This is the place where we work towards creating a process that allows us to move from an idea to a tangible product. Here, our garment designers and prototype engineers work in synergy from pattern cutting to the assembly of the swimsuit to produce industrial prototypes of our products.

THE WELDING WORKSHOP

The welding workshop is our industrial prototyping workshop for inflatable and waterproof products (swim rings, armbands, etc.). Garment designers, prototype engineers, product engineers and designers all work together to simulate the manufacturing process and determine the time and cost of production as well as how much material is required.

THE TEST POOL

After the prototyping phase, it's time to see what our prototypes our made of by moving on to the test phase! The aim of the test pool is to reproduce the real conditions of use in order to carry out our test protocol. Our Field Test Engineers create the test protocols and conduct them.

The Water Sports Center is a place of creativity and innovation where ideas are born and see the light of day every day. It is here, in Hendaye, thanks to the work of passionate teams and innovative infrastructures, that your future products come to life.
